The crew cut first originated when George Washington ordered all of his men to get one.It was known as a "warriors" cut. Most of the people who served in world war 2 and vietnam adopted this style. Today, many military personel still wear this hairstyle. The women during this time usually wore their hair in a scarf that was knotted at the front leaving the fringe exposed. The women often used plastic rollers along with lotion to keep their hair in place. Many women took after celebrities which led them to wear their hair long with soft curls or wavy natual looks. It was uncommon for a women to part her her like we do today. Bobby pins and barettes were common accessories. Men also wore their hair slicked back. In order to achieve this look they had to grow out their bangs. This look was considered "hollywood glamorous". A contour cut was a style in the 40's and it meant that your hair was blended in with the contours of your head. Another popular hairstyle at this time was called the chignon. This involved a woman pinning her hair in a knot at her kneck. The omelette fold was when the hair was parted at the back and a stylist used a criss cross effect so the hair could create folds.
